With her lover Aegisthos as accomplice, Klytämnestra has killed her husband, Agamemmon.Agamemmon and Klutämnestra´s daughter, Elektra, is quite naturally deeply traumatised by this fiendish deed. She is obsessed by the memory of her father and can think of nothing but seeking revenge through her brother, Orest. But Orest was sent away as an infant, and his hister, Chrysothemis, is not the one for revenge.
Klytämnestra is tormented by nightmares and asks Elektra what price she has to pay to rid herself of these evil dreams. Elektra is fully aware of the sacrifice necessary to end this anguish - Klytämnestra must die!
Then comes the news that Orest is dead. Klytämnestra triumphs and Elektra realizes that she alone must wreak rewenge over her mother and stepfather. But the very same moment she realizes that the messenger who brought tidings of Orest´s death is none other than Orest himself. He is summoned before Klytämnestra, and kills his mother.
When Aegisthos arrives, Elektra kindly lets him enter the palace where Orest awaits…
