Archilla offers himself to Cornelia in return for her freedom. She spurns him.

Caesar and "Lidia" meet in a garden, where their increasingly friendly chat is interrupted by news that Caesar has been betrayed and that people are seeking his death. "Lidia" discloses her true identity and tries to calm the situation, bur she fails and begs Caesar to flee. Caesar refuses and moves to confront his aggressors. In another garden, Ptomely confirms his desire for Cornelia and narrowly avoids being assassionated by Sextus, who is foiled by Achilla,. Ptomely, after fighting Achilla over Cornelia, leaves for battle with the Romans. Sextus is prevented from killing himself by his mother.

Act III

Achilla betrays Ptomely by placing his soldiers at Cleopatra´s disposal. Ptomely takes his sister prisoner, but just as Cleopatra is bidding farewell to her friends, Caesar arrives to save her. In Alexandria Caesar and Cleopatra acknowledge Cornelia and Sextus as friends and proclaim their love for each other. The opera ends with a celebration of peace.
