I'm working as a fulltime union representative for the Trade Union of Commercial Employees in Sweden since 1981.I´m going to retire in November 2007
Short about my background: I'm born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1945.Just before the school started in 1952 I moved to my mother who at that time lived in a city just south from Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden.
I left school in June 1959 at the age of fourteen years. In the end of 1959,just after I turned fifteen years of age I went to sea and with my first journey I arrived in Boston as the first port onboard the Swedish America Line's m/s Krageholm. On the trip we even visited New York and Baltimore.Thereafter I sailed around the Baltic Sea and saw S:t Petersburg, Klaipeda, Gdansk, Gdynia, Wismar and Rostock. During the winter season the ship sailed at the Mediterranean Sea with stops in Cette, in the southern part of France and a visit to Durres in Albania and finally to Bordeaux and then back to the Baltic Sea. Witm my next ship we sailed on the Great Lakes in Canada and USA, with stops in Montreal, Toronto and Chicago. During the winter-season when it wasn´t possible to traffic the Great Lakes we sailed from Israel with oranges to the Nordic countries.
During the period between 1962 and 1966 I mainly went with oil tankers from the Persian Gulf to Japan, South-America and the American west coast.
My last ship was m/s Paul Endacott who sailed from the European continent to Texas and Florida.
In my spare time I have been studying at evening-classes for several years so know I have 40 points in the Working class and working class movements history at the university of Lund. I have written several papers but only one in English: The History of the Trade Union Movement in Western Europe.
I use to be a passionate long runner, with six marathons, three in Stockholm and one in New York, Berlin and London. I ran the New York City marathon in 1988 in connection with the celebration of Sweden-Delaware 350 years since Sweden had Delaware as a colony.
